Glossary

CAM:

A specially shaped element mounted on the input shaft, designed to produce an output displacement as a specific function of the input displacement

TURRET:

The multi-roller following element mounted on the output shaft, which engages the profiled tracks of the cam. Cam and turret make the mechanism

HOUSING:

Is the container of the mechanism

INPUT SHAFT:

Is the shaft on which the cam is mounted

OUTPUT SHAFT:

Is the shaft on which the turret is mounted

ROLLER FOLLOWER:

It is a roller needle bearing mounted on the turret

NUMBER OF STOPS:

The number of positions in which the output shaft stops, when making one complete revolution: the number of complete indexing cycles which occur in one revolution of the output shaft: the number of stations

CAM INDEX ANGLE:

The part of 360° indexing cycle during which rotation of the input shaft (cam) produces motion of the output shaft (follower wheel) from one dwell position to the next

DWELL PERIOD:

The remaining part of the 360° indexing cycle during which no movement of the output shaft takes place

OUTPUT ANGLE:

Is the complete turn (360°) divided per the stops number or the oscillating angle in the oscillators

TURRET RADIUS:

Is the radius from the turret centre to the width middle of the follower in a turret

CAM MOTION LAW:

The output motion is a normalized function of the input rotation. Normalisation enables direct comparison between mechanisms of different type, size, variety and application. Standard Italplant mechanisms are provided with motion laws which have good dinamic response (vibration) properties, such as Modified Sine (MS)
